If you’ve ever wished your Cirrus had the same high-speed Wi-Fi as your house… that wish has became reality.

In my latest YouTube video, I walk you step-by-step through how to install Starlink Mini in any model Cirrus SR22from the early G1 and G2 models all the way through the newest G7 Plus.

This isn’t theory. It’s a practical, real-world guide based on what’s actually working in the Cirrus community right now.

Why Starlink in a Cirrus?

The Starlink Mini is compact, portable, and surprisingly aviation-friendly. Whether you’re filing flight plans at altitude, checking real-time weather updates, streaming music for your passengers, or preparing for international customs stops mid-flight, the capability is a true game-changer.

And yes… it’s fast.

Installation Options by Generation

One of the most interesting parts of this project is how installation varies by aircraft generation:

      • G1 & G2 SR22s: Believe it or not, these older models have the cleanest install option. The Starlink Mini can fit discreetly inside the wingtip, with proper A&P wiring and a dedicated circuit breaker. It’s almost invisible.

      • G3 through G7 models: The wingtip redesign eliminates that option, so most solutions mount the unit in the baggage compartment. Some pilots use a PVC mount (like mine), while others use suction mounts attached to the rear window.

In the video, I show exactly what mine looks like from both inside and outside the aircraft .

    Power: Battery vs Ship’s Power

    Power is where decisions matter.

You can use a battery pack but not all lithium batteries are created equal. Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) options are preferred for safety and heat resistance.

Personally, I chose ship’s power. My A&P installed:

        • A DC 28-volt receptacle

        • A 5-amp circuit breaker

        • Shielded 18-2 wiring

It’s clean, reliable, and turns on whenever the airplane does.

      Big News: Cirrus-Approved Install

Even more exciting, Cirrus Aircraft has now released service bulletins allowing an approved Starlink installation path through authorized service centers.

That’s a big shift from purely DIY solutions.

      Real-World Use Cases

This isn’t just about Netflix at 10,000 feet.

          • A COPA member used Starlink Wi-Fi calling after a total loss of comms.

          • I personally used it during an international reroute over water to coordinate an alternate airport with customs.

While the capability adds convenience, it also adds resilience.

If you’re considering adding Starlink to your Cirrus, this video breaks down:
